Smoke Covered Monrovia

The smoke from the La Canada (Station) fire came in with a vengeance this morning. This is facing south overlooking the city. It's in that smoke somewhere.

Monrovia Canyon Park Closed Temporarily

Due to the Azusa (Morris) fire, Canyon Park has been temporarily closed - even to pedestrians. Be sure to call the park first at 626-256-8282 to check whether the park is open or still closed before heading up.

UPDATE 8/26/2009:  Due to the fire, the Biodiversity Fair scheduled for this weekend in Monrovia Canyon Park has been canceled.

The former site of the Home Depot Expo Design Center on the corner of Mayflower Ave. and Huntington Dr. is now being prepped to become the newest Living Spaces store.

E-Waste Collection Event

The E-Waste Collection Event held today in the Park and Ride lot next to the Monrovia Train Depot.  The event was  hosted by the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce. 

Doesn't look too busy at about 4 pm when this photo was taken but people were still stopping by.  I would guess that a lot of old televisions get dropped off at these collection events lately.

That Sawpit Wash Trail Gate

Possibly the most famous gate in Monrovia. "The Gate" has been referred to in the news lately regarding a lawsuit between the city and homeowners over access to the Sawpit Wash trail.  The gate (at the far left of the photo) is expected to come down soon.

Painting The New Kohl's

Workers were painting the new Kohl's department store yesterday.  There was still a little strip left to do on the right half at the bottom of the wall. 

The new store should open in a little over a month from now.

What Kind Of Bug Is This?

 

Spotted this bug on the wall of the Nature Center in Monrovia Canyon Park.  No one could identify it.  The body is a little larger than a quarter with long back legs.  Anyone have any ideas?
