March 13, 2017: Since I started Gem City Images way back in 2007, the photos posted here have been (almost) exclusively of Monrovia. All my other photos have been posted to various social media sites like Flickr, Instagram and Facebook.

While that seemed like a good idea, in reality it led to a lack of consistency that was frustrating for me and made it hard to follow along with the latest photos.

So, starting now, Gem City Images will no longer be exclusively Monrovia. If you still want to see Monrovia only, you can always click the "Monrovia" label on the right side but hopefully you'll follow along for the whole experience.

Even though Gem City Images refers to Monrovia, I decided to keep that as the blog name. No matter where I go, The Gem City is where it all started.

Similar to Sunday's post but a little different composition.  Also processed differently to bring out more detail in the light.

Be Careful Where You Park

It doesn't show up as well as I'd hoped, but the roof and trunk of the car on the right are covered with palm fronds that have fallen from the palm trees above.

Between Storm Rainbow

One storm heads out of town, the next expected later tonight.  In between, the sun comes out long enough to create this rainbow above the city.

Pull To The Right

It doesn't look it, but the lights were flashing and the siren was on.
Does everyone know what to do when you hear a siren?  I see people ignoring these rules all the time.

Turns out the flu bug was meaner and bit harder than I had anticipated.  Kept me down for a week.  Thank goodness I had some extra photo's to use in case of emergency.  Other than some lingering laryngitis and a tiresome tickle in my throat, I feel better today.  Good thing I was never much of a talker anyway.

Big Sky Over Baseball Diamond

With baseball's spring training about to get underway, I thought I'd post something with a baseball theme today.

This photo is from the archives and was taken back in January of 2008. A nasty flu bug got hold of me on Tuesday and it has kept me inside instead of out roaming the streets taking photo's. I hope to be back at it by tomorrow.

Boxx Jewelers 1921 - 2009

Lots of businesses have come and gone, especially in our current economy, but this is a big deal.  Boxx Jewelers is a business that's just always been there.  My whole lifetime and much, much longer.  One of the few remaining pieces of downtown Monrovia that was part of my childhood is going out of business.

The clock, I think it's safe to speculate, will stay.  It was gifted to the Monrovia Historic Preservation Group who are responsible for maintaining the clock.  The clock has also been designated a Historic Landmark.

City Daily Photo Theme Day: Paths And Passages

This is a view of the Bill Cull Trail (path) taken from the parking lot in front of the Nature Center in Monrovia Canyon Park.  If you click on the photo for a larger version, you can see a couple of hikers enjoying the nice weather heading south on the trail.

Be sure to click the link below and take a trip around the world to see how participating City Daily Photobloggers  interpreted this months theme:
