Quonset Hut

There are a few of these Quonset Huts of various sizes around Monrovia, mainly in the more industrial sections of town.

This one comes with air conditioning and a nice blue accent stripe.

Interesting, Keith. What are these things used for now?

I'm sure the vast majority of them are used for extra storage space these days, but there was (maybe still is?) a larger one being used as a machine shop.

This particular "Quonset Hut" is located where a vehicle storage business used to be. (maybe it still does, I don't know)A man and his dog lived there and the gentleman kept an eye on all the vehicles and was responsible for renting out spaces. He was very nice and courteous and seemed like everything was okay with him and then he committed suicide in that "Quonset Hut" RIP

Wow. Sorry to hear that.

Sheesh... that's some history to the QH. I was going to say that they were a precursor to the modern day trailer buildings.

Very interesting, where are they located? I also live, work and volunteer in Monrovia and love it!

Terry: Sorry it took so long to answer your question. The one in the photo is on Chestnut between Mayflower and Alta Vista. There are a group of them on Pomona Ave just east of Myrtle Ave below the freeway and another on Railroad Ave a block south of the group on Pomona Ave.
