Oro Grande, California - Old Route 66

On the way back south on National Trails Hwy (Old Route 66) from Elmer Long's Bottle Tree Ranch (See previous post), I stopped to photograph a couple more of the interesting places along that stretch of Route 66 in Oro Grande.

First up is the Iron Hog Restaurant and Saloon.  A true biker bar.  Limousine, truck, fire truck, motorcycle and old wagon out front.

Historic Route sign and Route 66 street sign.  Even a tribute to Dennis Hopper.

A little farther down the road - The Oro Grande Shops.  This metal sign proudly displays its location on Route 66.

A Route 66 map on the side of the brick building that is home to multiple shops.

Street front view of the Oro Grande Shops with Route 66 signs and a smaller map painted on the wall at the opposite end of the building.  If you walk down that driveway to the right...

...you'll see the stagecoach arriving and some surprisingly familiar characters waiting in line at the "Bank of Oro Grande."  The real Bank of Oro Grande is just down the street, closed and boarded up.

Next to the brick building (south side) is the Cross Eyed Cow Pizza joint, with the eye catching cross eyed cow itself on the roof watching the trains pass across the street.  That's the boarded up Bank of Oro Grande next door to the left in the photo.

Shelley's Shop Around The Corner is next door (north side) to the shops in the big brick building.

And of course, what would Route 66 be without an abandoned gas station and market.
