Clamshell

The area looks like a giant clamshell was used to make an indentation in the hillside.

Photographing this is, more than anything else, a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I think I should have waited for the sun to climb a little higher.  When the light is just right, it really stands out.

Still, I think you can see why they call the area "Clamshell".

I've never heard that reference "clam shell" funny...and I like the new header

There are places in the foothills named after it. Upper and lower Clamshell truck trails and Clamshell Peak for instance.

Another vote for the header. I almost wish they would leave the station alone. I hadn't visited the Pasadena one for (several? many?) years, but I did last weekend. All the subtle, wistful charm was gone. It looked like any other restaurant.

I hear ya. It's a difficult thing to rehab and keep the charm, but it's better than tearing it down and losing it forever. I'll always have a soft spot for this old building just as it is.
