March 13, 2017: Since I started Gem City Images way back in 2007, the photos posted here have been (almost) exclusively of Monrovia. All my other photos have been posted to various social media sites like Flickr, Instagram and Facebook.

While that seemed like a good idea, in reality it led to a lack of consistency that was frustrating for me and made it hard to follow along with the latest photos.

So, starting now, Gem City Images will no longer be exclusively Monrovia. If you still want to see Monrovia only, you can always click the "Monrovia" label on the right side but hopefully you'll follow along for the whole experience.

Even though Gem City Images refers to Monrovia, I decided to keep that as the blog name. No matter where I go, The Gem City is where it all started.

The long vacant and boarded up building on the southwest corner of Myrtle and Colorado is finally being worked on. What will it become?

With summer coming, it's important to be alert for snakes (even more than usual). As you can see in the photo, they are not always easy to spot.

This Used To Be...#13

...Sandi's restaurant and before that a Bob's Big Boy. That was all torn down and now it's a corner shopping center with several businesses.

Today marks the 1 year anniversary of Gem City Images!

When I started this site, the challenge was to post a different photo of Monrovia every day for a year. There were a few times when afternoon was fading into evening and I didn't know what I was going to post, but I didn't miss a day.

I am most appreciative of all the people that have taken the time to check out my photo's. Thank you to the locals that can see the city anytime yet still come by to see what I've posted, to the visitors from all 50 states and to the international visitors that have come from over 85 different countries/territories. I didn't expect that.

All in all, I've had far too much fun to stop now. Starting tomorrow we head right into year two. I have one new addition planned that isn't quite ready to announce yet. Beyond that, hopefully we'll find out together what the next year will bring.

Thank you.

Hitching Post

There aren't a lot of these left around town. They usually have a metal ring on them that's missing on this one.
