Monrovia Police

One of Monrovia's police officers, Sgt. Dan Verna, was shot twice early Sunday morning while attempting to arrest a suspected burglar. He is doing well but is still in the hospital.

As I've said before, this website is meant to focus on the positive images, desirable aspects and the sense of community in Monrovia. It is in no small part that, through the efforts of the Monrovia police department, those depictions are even possible.

The Monrovia police have had a lot to deal with lately in addition to their day to day duties. I want to take this opportunity to thank Sgt. Dan Verna, the entire Monrovia police department, the CHP and all the law enforcement organizations that have provided support recently.

The sign says commercial real estate and the property is surrounded by a commercial area, but if this was located in a residential neighborhood it would make a very nice home.

Here's another from my night of photography last week. This is the south side of the theatre with a nice big public parking lot across the street.

For those not familiar with the city, let me place this photo in relation to previous photo's I've posted. Across the street is the building that use to house the bowling alley and if you could pan to the right, you would see fire station #101.

Since I hadn't done so in awhile, I went out last week at night to take some photo's around town. Here's the fire station that I had previously posted a daytime photo of here.

Formerly Fotomat

There were a lot of these little Fotomat buildings built in large parking lots where you could drop off your film and pick up your prints. Now they're used for all kinds of businesses. I've seen watch repair, this one sells cigarettes. You just can't be claustrophobic to work in one.

Sawpit Dam

Although no longer used, it's still a pretty impressive structure.

The Dam belongs to L.A. County but there's been talk for a while now about transferring it to the City of Monrovia.

I think it shows an interesting timeline for this one spot. Things get added, things get changed, some things stay the same. You end up with a somehow appealing hodge podge of history.

Henry's Market Coming To Monrovia

The former Lucky's Supermarket pictured above on the left has been vacant for many years. Finally, according to the 02/29/2008 City Manager's Report, Henry's Market and other as yet unspecified businesses will be coming to the shopping center.
