Old Town Monrovia's Family Festival Street Fair

This event is very popular and gets quite a crowd on Friday nights. I was there early and took this photo before the crowds got there. This is looking north on Myrtle Ave. from the very south end of the festival. The San Gabriel Mountains are in the distance.

2007 Monrovia Canyon Park Biodiversity Fair

Here's a sweeping view of last Saturday's 2nd annual Biodiversity Fair in Monrovia Canyon Park. The exhibitors were set up in the area behind the Nature Center. At the far right in the photo, CNN was there to record interviews and the park itself.

I want to make sure to list the sponsors and exhibitors that made the event a success:

Sponsors:

Togo's
McDonalds
BJ's
Olive Garden
Macaroni Grill
Rigo's Mexican Restaurant
Sesame Grill

Exhibitors:

A huge thanks and congratulations also goes to Park Staff Cyndi and Kathleen for planning and organizing this successful event.

The "Big M"

On the hillside above the city. I'll re-visit this in the fall when it gets lit during football games.

Deer Crossing

Since Monrovia is located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, these signs are a common sight in the northern part of the city.

The Gate - Making The Ordinary Extraordinary

This gate fronts the parking lot of a business on Chestnut Ave. near downtown Monrovia. It really is impressive, not your standard metal gate. It looks like a lot of effort and skill went into making this masterpiece.

Tree In The Middle Of The Street

This tree was left in the middle of the street on Garfield Pl. This is the only street in Monrovia that I'm aware of where this is the case. Anyone know of others?

Spider Web

Took this photo a little over a month ago. I don't remember seeing these webs so early in the year before. I'm used to seeing them later in the fall when they fit in so nicely with the annual Halloween Haunted Hike in Monrovia Canyon Park.

Granite Block - Monrovia Canyon Park

There is another granite block just like this one in Library Park. Since they are so similar, I'm assuming their history is the same. According to the plaque at Library Park, these blocks were quarried in Monrovia Canyon Park and were part of the Monrovia City Hall building that once stood on the northeast corner of Library Park - where the library's block and plaque are located.

Painted Redstart at Monrovia Canyon Park

Apparently this little bird is not common to this area because it brought the Audobon Society out in force when it showed up at the park in December of 2005. I had quite a time getting a photo, it just wouldn't hold still.

Daybreak on Myrtle Ave.

As I've said before, I'm partial to capturing normally busy streets when they are empty. A different look at a common sight.
This is early morning in "Old Town Monrovia" aka Downtown Monrovia aka Myrtle Ave. looking north towards the San Gabriel Mountains which are obscured by slightly overcast skies.

Library Park Tree

This Moreton Bay fig tree is right outside the entrance to the library. The signs say that climbing it is no longer allowed. When I was younger, it was my favorite part of going to the library.
I wonder if it will be kept when the new library is built?
