Sunday Road Trip - Devil's Punchbowl

For this road trip, I headed north to the other side of our local mountains to the Devil's Punchbowl.  Devil's Punchbowl is part of the L.A. County Park system and is located in Pearblossom, California.

Some information on the park and what makes it unique can be found on the park website: http://www.devils-punchbowl.com/

Here we are arriving at the entrance to the park.

Just off the parking lot, the first building you come to is the nature center.  The nature center has maps, info and Rangers or Volunteer Naturalists available to answer all your questions.

Directly across from the nature center is the picnic area.

There are three trails of varying lengths and difficulty.  I took the middle of the three, the 1 mile loop trail.  The loop trail goes down 300' into Punchbowl Canyon, then back up again.

The next four photos were taken along the Loop Trail and give you a pretty good idea of what the scenery looks like.  The rocks remind me of Vasquez Rocks, which is about an hour's drive from here.

Dropping in for a visit - I loooooove Devil's Punchbowl, but your nuts to visit mid-day in summer. Really beautiful at sunset in the cooler months. I always wanted to do a post on it and do have pictures but that golden hour is more like minutes. In other words less then spectacular documentation.
