First Water

Monrovia Canyon Park.

The first water crossing you'll come to if you start your hike to the waterfall from behind the nature center.

First Day Of School

Today is the first day of school in the Monrovia Unified School District.

Here's a shot of Monrovia High School showing off some of the improvements to the grounds at the front of the school.  The temporary fencing still needs to come down and the new grass needs its first mowing, but that's minor.  This is the beautiful curb appeal I mentioned the other day.

Through The Rocks

You can see a small part of the waterfall behind the rocks just left of center in the photo.

Poison Oak

This stuff is everywhere along the trails in Monrovia Canyon Park.  The trail crew tries to keep it cut back off the trails but it grows very fast.  It's a pretty plant with greens and reds, but please don't touch it.

Remember: Leaves of three, let it be!

The Gate

If you hike the Ben Overturff trail, you should recognize this gate.  It's located at the first trail head.  You can walk or take your bike around it to continue up the fire road, but it keeps people from driving beyond this point.  Since there's no parking allowed and it isn't a public road up to here, you shouldn't be driving up here anyway.

Monrovia High School Electronic Sign Is On

Not sure when the switch was flipped but this was the first time I've seen the sign on when driving by.

The new grass is coming in nicely, the new walkways are in and school is about to start again.  The school looks great now but when the work is finally done it will have some spectacular curb appeal.

The Bat - Our Furry Friend

Bats sometimes get a bad rap, but they really provide many benefits.  Here's an article dismissing some misconceptions and providing some info on California bats:  http://www.dfg.ca.gov/viewing/bats2.html

The photo above was taken at Monrovia Canyon Park.

Sun Sets On The Monrovia Train Depot

Yes, I cut off the "A" in "Monrovia".  It was much darker out than it looks here and I needed a flashlight to move along the tracks.  Taking the photo involved setting the camera on the ground, making a guess for angle and direction and hoping for the best.  My guess was just a little off.

Most of the "A" was there originally but straightening the building during post processing cut it off.  Next time.

Sidewalk At The Krikorian

I've been searching through my photo archives recently, this photo was taken a little over three years ago but never posted.

Early morning in Old Town Monrovia.  The sun is up but there isn't much activity yet.  Just me and the occasional car.

2006 Haunted Hike Cemetery

Let's revisit the past with today's photo.

This is from the 2006 version of the wildly popular Haunted Hikes that were held in Monrovia Canyon Park through 2008.  Here is the cemetery you would have passed by and that, strangely, only appeared at night around Halloween.

If you're curious to learn more, the Haunted Hike website is still up.  You can get a better idea of what it was all about, see more photos and even a short video - http://www.mcphauntedhike.com/

Good times...
