Monrovia Train Depot - Ground Level
A tentative agreement on 14 acres to be used for a Metro maintenance facility has been reached pending approval of the Monrovia City Council and the Gold Line Construction Authority. The land is just a short distance down the tracks from the depot here.

Bird's Nest
There really is a bird in there. I wish I could tell what kind. All those leaves and it just took one to block my view.

Jacaranda
Looking towards the upper parking lot of Monrovia Canyon Park. With an explosion of color, there's no mistaking the Jacaranda tree, even from far away.

Highlander Pet Center
Highlander Pet Center is having a Homeless Animal Adoption Fair today (July 16th) from 11am to 3pm at 419 W. Foothill Blvd. Monrovia.
These kittens and small to medium sized dogs are rescues from local high kill shelters. The words "high kill" and "shelter" don't seem to go together, in my opinion. If you've been thinking about getting a new pet/family member, stop by and have a look. Click the links above for more info.

San Jose Creek Water Reclamation Plant
This isn't in Monrovia or even San Jose, it is located at the intersection of the 605 and 60 freeways in Whittier, CA. It's also along the San Gabriel River and the San Jose Creek, which is where the name comes from.
The connection to Monrovia is that this is where all the stuff that goes down the drains and toilets in your homes and businesses ends up.
In our never ending quest to learn more about the environment and how things work, some staff and volunteers of Monrovia Canyon Park took a field trip to the water reclamation plant for a tour.
This is where they use a multi-stage process to separate the "solids" from the water, biodegrade organic materials, eliminate the fine particulates and disinfect. The treated water is then safe for human contact and can be reused to recharge the groundwater supply and also for golf courses, parks, industrial uses, etc.
This plant alone treats 100 million gallons of water a day. The treated water isn't reused directly as drinking water, but it's possible. First we need to get past the yuck factor.

California Electric Bike Co.
A new business in town at 147 E. Foothill Blvd. in Monrovia (Corner of Ivy and Foothill). I'd love to have one of these. It evens folds up for easy carry or storage.
Check out their website here.

Watching The Fireworks
There were some technical difficulties with the fireworks Monday night leaving everyone wondering at several points whether the show was over or not. The lights on the library and in the park would go on and off. The fireworks would start and stop with long gaps in between. Somehow all that confusion came together to create this image with just enough light from a light post to illuminate this couple enjoying the show.

Delgado Brothers 4th Of July Concert
The Delgado Brothers put on a great pre-fireworks show on Monday evening. Monrovia is very fortunate to have a band of this quality playing at local events.
Seriously, buy their CD's now. Here or here.

Monrovia Canyon Park is closed through the 4th of July by order of the Fire Department. That includes bicycles and pedestrians, not just cars.
The park will be back to normal on Tuesday, July 5th. Remember, normal for Tuesday is still closed to vehicles. Gates back open for vehicles on Wednesday, July 6th.

July 2011 City Daily Photo Theme Day: The Color Green
Green Dot is a company based here in Monrovia that is a leading provider of prepaid Mastercard and Visa debit cards. They are also, coincidentally, a sponsor of the 4th of July fireworks show to be held in Library Park this Monday evening.
Lucky for me, their sign is green, on green grass and surrounded by green trees.
To see how other City Daily photographers from around the world interpreted the theme for this month of "Green", just click the link below:
