March 13, 2017: Since I started Gem City Images way back in 2007, the photos posted here have been (almost) exclusively of Monrovia. All my other photos have been posted to various social media sites like Flickr, Instagram and Facebook.

While that seemed like a good idea, in reality it led to a lack of consistency that was frustrating for me and made it hard to follow along with the latest photos.

So, starting now, Gem City Images will no longer be exclusively Monrovia. If you still want to see Monrovia only, you can always click the "Monrovia" label on the right side but hopefully you'll follow along for the whole experience.

Even though Gem City Images refers to Monrovia, I decided to keep that as the blog name. No matter where I go, The Gem City is where it all started.

Painted Utility Boxes - Chess Pieces

Two boxes this time.  Getting away from the nature scenes, these are chess pieces located adjacent to the chess game tables in front of the library.

Painted Utility Box #5

This one is more of a beach scene.  Located on the southeast corner of Palm  and Myrtle Avenues - across the street from Library Park.

No Parking Sign For The Sunday Farmers' Market

I love the colorful backdrop in this photo.  The trees of Library Park with the San Gabriel Mountains peeking through at the top.

Undercover At The Bandshell

The band was too small to see in yesterday's photo from the concert in the park, so here's a better shot of the band "Undercover" in the Library Park bandshell.

Derail At The Depot

This shot is very similar to the one I posted last Friday.  The main difference is this one has the sign that caught my eye and got me to stop and take some photos.  There is a reason for a sign like this but it seemed like an unexpected word to find next to the tracks.

Good Thing It's Summer

While additions and improvements are being done at the high school, the front steps are a little torn up.

East To The Depot

This is looking east from Magnolia Ave. over a recently cleared field towards the Monrovia train depot / future Gold Line Station.  Just to the right of the depot are some multicolored Googie style features of the Nu-Way car wash.  The railroad tracks come in from the right and go between the depot and the car wash.

*On a side note:  I've made myself fairly scarce for the last few weeks.  That is because I've been spending a great deal of time helping my feline friend and family member fight her health battles.  Unfortunately, it has become clear that her time left is limited.

For a temporary and short time, this site will go from a daily photo to an intermittent photo site.  I want to spend time with her and remove the pressure of the daily posting.  Thanks...

2010 Monrovia 4th of July Fireworks - Pt. 4

I like photographing fireworks and I don't get to do it too often (once a year) so I'm going to use this weekend to post a couple more photos from the 4th of July. Hope that's okay.

July 2010 City Daily Photo Theme Day: Reflections

Yes, it really is a reflection in a window.  I used the timer setting to take the photo without me being in it.
