Monrovia High School - Football Field and Track

Friday seemed like the right day to post a photo of the high school football field. This is looking north towards the San Gabriel Mountains with the "Big M" to the left of center on the nearest hill.
I previously posted of photo of the "Big M" lit up during a football game here. When Monrovia wins the game, the outer lights are turned off forming a "V" for Victory.
A closer view of the "Big M" during the day here.

City Daily Photo Theme Day - Water

This stream is in Monrovia Canyon north of the city.
I chose this photo not just for the stream, but because it also shows a bit of the history of Monrovia. The metal pipe running down the middle of the stream is part of the old water system dating back to the incorporation of the city in 1887.
The city founders, in order to attract people to the city, offered free water from the canyon to anyone who bought a homesite. It only took about 5 years before the canyon could no longer supply enough water for all the new residents but by then the city was well established.
There are many of these pipes remaining in the canyon as a reminder of the early days of Monrovia.
Be sure to check out more of the photoblogs from the following worldwide list that are also participating in the April theme of Water:
