Thanks to the amazing generosity of Maria above, we hit the big time this year. She is a successful professional film / television / print makeup artist who came out to our Halloween event all 3 nights to apply makeup to our "monsters".

She managed to handle the group of teenagers we handed over to her, do an incredible job and still get done on time! Highly recommended.

The hikes will go on as scheduled.

Monrovia Canyon Park, due to the Red Flag Alert, fires and continuing fire danger, has been closed to traffic and pedestrians by the fire department - see the city website front page. But, the hikes have not been cancelled, they will go on.

There's a bit of a backstory to this mountain lion on display in the Monrovia Canyon Park nature center. Some people say it's true, some say no way.

Rumor has it that this mountain lion was in an old Cal Worthington commercial as Cal's dog "Spot". Those of you that were around back then will remember the wide variety of animals (except a dog) that were part of his commercials and that he introduced as "my dog Spot".

I have no idea whether it's true or not. If anyone can put this controversy to rest, please let us know.

We call him "Spot" now regardless.

This cow's been around as long as I can remember. It's a holdover from when the business at that corner was a dairy. Glad to see the current owners still put it out. It's truly a Monrovia landmark.

I almost got the photo of the deer facing me but before I could get my camera out some hikers with a dog came off the waterfall trail onto the Mesa. The deer decided that was a little too much activity and headed for someplace quieter.

Hard to believe somplace this beautiful and natural is only about 10 minutes from downtown Monrovia.

Car Show and Krikorian Theatre

I realize this is 3 days of car show photo's in a row but I find the show both nostalgic and photogenic. I hope no one minds too much.

Here's some bonus info: That little bit of snow in the foreground is leftover from filming a Christmas episode of the new t.v. show "October Road" the night before.
