Going back into the archives to 2005 for this one tonight.  I was sidetracked by a check engine light on the car so my schedule for the day went out the window.  This photo was taken during a hike to reach 3 peaks (Monrovia, Rankin, Clamshell) north of the city in a single day hike.

I'm terrible at remembering plant names.  I believe this is a Lupine - feel free to correct me.  Directly behind the flower and running parallel to the trail is a section of pipe from the old water system going back to the early days of the city.

Spotted this box on the corner of Myrtle Ave. and Colorado Blvd. in Old Town Monrovia.  Nicely painted with flowers for spring.  Much better than a drab grey.

Beauty And Barbed Wire

A Day Off

Not a day off from posting a photo, just a day off from posting a photo about Monrovia.  I thought it might be fun to sneak in something different.  Maybe I wanted to show that Monrovia, while integral to me, isn't the only subject of my photos.

So, on a recent day off, I drove up the coast to the La Purisima Mission in Lompoc, CA.  One of the California Missions, La Purisma is huge, beautiful, restored and I can't recommend it enough as a place to take photographs.  The city of Solvang is close by for a good meal and to stock up on pastries.  Makes for a great day trip from the L. A. area.

In a way, it was like going back to the beginning for me.  When I first started taking photography classes, La Purisima was our first field trip and the first time I went somewhere for the sole purpose of taking photos.  It only took me about 22 years to make it back.

Painted Redstart

I took this photo back at the end of 2005.  I remember taking a LOT of photos because this little bird would not stop moving.  This was not one of the better shots.  The focus is more on the leaves than the bird.

Pizza And Balloons

Seems like I can't drive by on Foothill Blvd. anymore without seeing the balloon guy out there advertising the Little Caesars pizza in the shopping center.
